(DELPHOS) – It’s been awhile.  For the first time since the 2005 season, Bluffton’s girls basketball team was crowned Champion of the Northwest Conference after defeating Delphos Jefferson 59-37.  The Pirates finished the season tied atop the standings with Columbus Grove with identical 7-1 records.  To put it in perspective, the senior foursome of Alivia Koenig, Averey Rumer, Katie Prater & Ashley Eachus were in preschool the last time Bluffton was crowned champion.

Bluffton finishes the regular season at 17-5 and 7-1 in NWC play.

Game Notes

Bluffton got off to another blistering start, scoring the game’s first eight points.  Koenig opened the scoring with a ‘3’ and Prater followed up with one of her own.  Katie went on to score a game high 17 points.  Prater hit another long ball at the buzzer to give Bluffton a 20-11 lead after one quarter. A 7-2 run enabled Bluffton to take control of the game in the second quarter and BHS took a 31-19 advantage into the half.

Prater stayed hot from the outside, nailing two more three pointers in the third period as Bluffton built a staggering 49-29 lead heading into the fourth and then milked clock to take home the victory.
