Another Shootout for Ada & Bluffton

(ADA) - In 2019, Bluffton zoomed past Ada by a 70-50 score.  Not much changed for 2020 as the Pirates scored 26 fourth quarter points and escaped town with a 48-46 victory.  The win was the first of 2020 for the Pirates, now 1-2 on the season. 

Bluffton led 14-8 at halftime but Ada poured in 22 third quarter points to take control of the ballgame including a 65 yard return of the second half kickoff down to the Pirate 12 yard line.  Heading into the fourth quarter, Ada led 30-22.  

Tyson Shutler caught a 26 yard pass from Nate Schaadt to ignite the opening Pirate drive of the fourth quarter and then tacked on a 41 yard touchdown run.  Ada still led 30-28 after a failed two point conversion. Ada increased their lead after a 57 yard touchdown run from Keegan Hull and two point conversion that created a 38-28 advantage for the hosts. 

Schaadt made some magic on the next drive.  Facing fourth and six, the quarterback threw to Landyn Fleharty for a 15 yard touchdown. A failed two point conversion left the count at 38-34, Ada.  Bluffton's defense forced a punt and Fleharty got back to work.  The junior ripped off a 52 yard run setting up a scoring pass from Schaadt to Shutler and a 42-38 Pirate lead. 

Shutler wasn't done as he picked off an Ada pass and returned it 40 yards for another Pirate score.  Bluffton led 48-38 with four minutes remaining.  Ada tacked on a final score and two point conversion leaving the final count Bluffton 48, Ada 46. 

Bluffton outgained Ada 470-337.  The Pirates displayed balance on offense with 246 rushing and 224 passing.  BHS racked up 23 first downs compared to just 13 for Ada. 

Nate Schaadt accounted for five scores on the night.  The junior threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more.  Schaadt completed 13/21 for 224 yards and had a whopping 29 carries for 80 yards.  Tyson Shutler picked up 78 yards on just 9 carries and nabbed 6 passes for 87 yards and a score. Ethan Bogart had but one catch but it was a big one, going 64 yards and for a touchdown. Landyn Fleharty grabbed 2 passes for 27 yards and a score. The junior also picked up 70 yards rushing on just 4 carries.
