(PERRYSBURG) - The Pirate boys soccer team beefed up their 2020 schedule in order to get (and remain) tournament ready. The team bus traveled to Division 1 Perrysburg to take on the physical Yellow Jackets. Although the hosts sported a record of 1-4, they were ranked sixth in the initial Division 1 state poll. Bluffton, undefeated at game time, came in ranked third in the state.
Senior Colin Oglesbee put Bluffton ahead just 8 minutes into the contest, however Perrysburg equalized just four minutes later. Simon Derstine fed Jonathan Schriner in the 36th minute and Bluffton again led 2-1. The hosts again found the net just one minute later, knotting the game at 2-2.
The secoond half became a very physical contest and neither team put any more goals on the books. Shots were basically even with Bluffton holding a slight 16-14 edge. Pirate keeper Nic Essinger grabbed 7 saves in the tie.
