(BLUFFTON) - A strong running display bolstered Bluffton off to a quick 14-0 lead against Allen East but the Mustangs came roaring back and won the contest by a 45-22 score.  Allen East improved to 2-0 with the win while Bluffton fell to 0-2 on the season.  The Pirates travel to winless Ada in Week 3 action.

Nate Schaadt carried the load on the opening drive as he had several rushes for first downs setting up Tyson Shutler, who went 24 yards for the opening score.  After a quick stop on defense, the Pirates again marched the field.  The scoring pass went from Schaadt to Landyn Fleharty covering 7 yards.  The Pirates held a 14-0 advantage just five minutes into the contest.

The Mustangs scored on back to back drives to finish the first quarter and tie the game at 14-14.  The duo of quarterback Tyler Clum and wideout Bradden Crumrine did the damage both times on scoring passing plays covering 37 and 61 yards.  Clum added a third scoring toss of the half with just 2:37 left when he hit Garrett Newsome for 13 yards over the middle.  The Mustangs extended their lead to 33-14 with two touchdown runs by Clum in the third quarter.

Shutler filled in for Schaadt who got dinged up and led a scoring drive with just seconds left in the third quarter.  Shutler passed to brother Landon Shutler over the middle for 18 yards on his first play. On the last play of the drive, Shutler raced 19 yards for the score and threw to Jackson Wilson on the two point conversion to make the score 33-22 heading into the fourth quarter.

Clum added two more scoring throws in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach as the Pirates could not get off the field defensively.   Clum ended the game with an impressive line of 22/32 passing with 4 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and 291 yards.  Nate Schaadt gained 100 yards on 20 carries and added 120 yards through the air on 8/18 with 1 touchdown and one interception.  Tyson Shutler gained 84 yards on the ground with two scores (also 69 yards receiving and 29 yards passing) and Malachi Pahl added 74 yards. Jackson Wilson had 40 yards receiving.

Defensively, Wilson led the team with 7 tackles.  Kameryn Coughland added 5.5, Tyson Shutler 5 and Landyn Fleharty 4.5.  Zavier Oneal had a sack among his four tackles.

The Pirates hit the road next Friday to face winless Ada.  The Bulldogs have lost to the same two squads Bluffton has:  Columbus Grove by a 52-18 count and Allen East by a 41-14 score.
