(BLUFFTON) - A physical final quarter saw Kenton outscore Bluffton 28-16 and leave town with a 66-65 victory.  Included in the fray was a three pointer allowed from near mid court after one of the referees blew his whistle for a Bluffton timeout however after conferring, the referees allowed the bucket to stand, ruling an indavertant whistle. It was a tough way to end a game that Bluffton led at one point by as many as 16 points.

Jared Piercefield had the hot hand early scoring 7 points as BHS took a 17-6 lead after one quarter.  McCormick Ault had a nice first half, draining a three pointer in the first quarter and then following it up with acrobatic reverse layup that send the Pirate crowd into a frenzy. Bluffton led 32-21 at the break after both teams put up 15 in the quarter.  The two teams continued to trade buckets in the third quarter with each team scoring 17 points.  Luke Denecker scored 8 points in the quarter including back to back three pointers.  BHS maintained their 11 point advantage heading into the final quarter.

Kenton upped their defensive pressure to full court in the fourth quarter and went for every steal and grab they could get their hands on.  Bluffton had a parade to the free throw line, attempting 16 free throws and connecting on 9.  Luke Denecker, who was 6/8 from the line in the fourth quarter, gave Bluffton a 60-53 lead with 1:59 to go.  After a stop, Baylor Garmatter added another free throw to make it 61-53 with 1:39 left.  Garmatter scored a career high 14 points in the game.

Garmatter scored on a breakaway layup with 25 seconds left to give Bluffton a 65-61 lead.  While the ball was out of bounds, Coach Boblitt called time which was whistled by the near referee.  Kenton inbounded the ball near mid court and Jaron Sharpe half heartedly flung it at the hoop and it went in.  The whistle should have stopped the play but after a considerable discussion of the three referees, the call was allowed to stand making the score 65-64 Bluffton with 22 seconds left.  After a pair of missed Pirate free throws, Wildcat Jayden Cornell made two free throws to give Kenton a lead with 17 ticks left.  The Pirates turned the ball over on the inbounds play and then could not get a clean look to win it at the buzzer.
