Allen East Defeats BHS

By

(BLUFFTON) - Having dropped four games in four weeks after a season opening win against Cory-Rawson, Bluffton was looking for a spark in their Homecoming game against Allen East.  Instead, it was the visitors that took a 21-7 lead into the halftime break after a dominating first half.

Running back Hunter Paxson ran hard and picked up numerous first downs however sophomore quarterback Tyler Clum also threw well as he connected with Bradden Crumrine for a 38 yard touchdown pass late in the first half.  Wide receiver Bryce Belcher took a direct snap and sprinted 38 yards for another Mustang touchdown.

Bluffton was led by Deandre Nassar who had 13 first half carries for 68 yards.  However, the Pirate first half touchdown came on a 26 yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Nate Schaadt to senior Mason Ault.  Ault skied above a Mustang defender, made another miss  at the 20 yard line and scooted into the end zone.  The Pirates did themselves no favors with six first half penalties.

The Mustangs continued to control the line of scrimmage in the second half.  While Paxton continued to get the lion’s share of carries, Jacob Treglia and Bradden Crumrine toted the rock as well.  But it was wide receiver Bryce Belcher that scored two touchdowns in the second half for the visitors, both on a direct snap.

For Bluffton, Nassar found it harder than ever to pick up ground.  Logan Rhodes found some success on counters and jet sweeps.  The two seniors combined for 159 yards with Nassar at 71 and Rhodes at 68.  While the Mustangs moved the ball, several Pirates had a strong defensive game.  Baylor Garmatter led the team with 12 tackles.  Mason Ault had a sack and tackle for loss and brother Mickey had 6 tackles including a TFL.  Tucker Neff made 5 tackles from his middle linebacker spot.  Logan Rhodes had a big hit over the middle in the fourth quarter among his 3 tackles.

For the game, Allen East outgained Bluffton 460-250 including a 294-55 advantage through the air.  The Pirates outgained the Mustangs on the ground 195-166.
