Crestview Starts Fast, Wins 53-0

(CONVOY) - Crestview checked in at sixth in the first release of the Ohio High School football state rankings.  The Knights boasted the reigning Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year Drew Klein and averaged 44 points per game through the first weeks of the season.  The Knights lived up to the hype Friday night as they hung a 53-0 victory on Bluffton.  CHS built a 40-0 halftime lead including four scores in the second quarter. Bluffton fell to 1-3 with the loss.

Bluffton pulled off a successful onside kick to open the game and quickly picked up two first downs. The drive stalled inside the Knight 30 and CHS took over.  The Knights mixed run and pass and eventually punched in a five yard score.  Crestview blocked Bluffton’s punt on the next possession and returned it for a touchdown.  Three Pirate turnovers in the second quarter doomed the visitors’ effort.  A fumble, interception and fumbled kickoff all turned into Crestview touchdowns.   As the teams headed to the locker room, the scoreboard read 40-0 in favor of the Knights.

The second half featured a running clock as the scoring margin exceeded 30 points.  The Knights tacked on two rushing scores of 53 & 48 yards.  The Pirates were unable to get the ball moving throughout the night as they amassed just 190 yards from scrimmage.  Quarterback Nate Schaadt completed 6 of 19 passes for 111 yards with two interceptions.  Tucker Neff carried 11 times for 62 yards to lead the rushing game.  Mason Ault had 3 catches for 93 yards. Defensively, Baylor Garmatter registered 6 tackles and intercepted a pass.

Bluffton will travel to Paulding in Week 5.  The Panthers are 0-4 on the season.
