(BLUFFTON) - Bluffton and St Marys each scored a goal in both halves as the teams endured a thrilling finish to draw 2-2 as the 2018 season opened Saturday night.  Bluffton surged ahead with six minutes to go but the visitors responded just over a minute later to even the score.

St. Marys drew first blood, finding the net 13 minutes into the match.  Jonathon Schriner scored a breakaway goal off a pass from Luke Young to tie the game with 13:24 left in the half.  The game got a bit ragged as three yellow cards were handed out in the first 40 minutes of play.

The Pirates continued to attack in the second half as Young, Schriner, Jesse Montel, Jayden Mays, Tayton Kleman, Isaiah Schwab and others routinely peppered the St Marys goalkeeper but nothing got by.  True to the test, Bluffton goalie Dakoda Clymer was also under fire stopping a breakaway and also making a diving stop on a shot from the top of the box to keep the Pirates in the game.

Finally, Bluffton took the lead with 6:22 left.  Young intercepted a Roughrider pass and moved up the right side.  He sent an arcing ball to the back post that Montel expertly headed down and across the line for the go-ahead score.  The lead was short lived as St Marys equalized just one minute later.  After a foul was called some 40 yards from the Pirate goal, the visitors sent a high ball into the center of the box and it was headed on and into the net.

Bluffton outshot St Marys 10-7.  Clymer came up with 5 saves for Bluffton.
