Pirates Split Softball Doubleheader With LB

(BLUFFTON) - Liberty Benton and Bluffton’s softball settled in for a lengthy, cold & windy afternoon as the two squads split a double header Saturday afternoon.  LB won the first contest 7-4 and Bluffton stole the second game 6-5 on a walk off sac fly from Libby Schaadt. 

Game 1: Liberty Benton 7 Bluffton 4

Liberty Benton pitching held Bluffton to just four hits in taking the first game by a 7-4 score.  The Eagles were able to pound out 14 hits against a trio of Pirate pitchers en route to the win. Libby Schaadt, Aimee Ritter and Grace Myers rotated through the first game from the center circle.

Mara Minnig went 2/3 with 2 RBI in the contest to lead Bluffton at the plat.  Averey Rumer was 1/2 with 2 runs scored and Schaadt hit a double, scored a run and knocked one run in.

Game 2: Bluffton 6 Liberty Benton 5

Bluffton got things rolling early in the second contest with 4 first inning runs.  Liberty Benton got three runs back in the third and scored two in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.  In the bottom of the seventh, Schaadt lofted a fly ball that was caught but scored the game winning run on a sacrifice fly.  With the win, Bluffton improves to 4-2 on the season. 

Rumer was red hot in the second game going 3/4 with 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. Mara Minnig continued her hot hitting as well going 2/3 with a run scored.  

From the mound, Schaadt pitched a complete game giving up 7 hits and striking out 3.
