Katie Prater hits the game tying ‘3’ by Marvin Foster

(LIMA) - The first time Bluffton and Columbus Grove met in Girls basketball this season, Columbus Grove came away with a double overtime win. The second meeting looked to be headed the same way. But the Bulldogs made a layup with two seconds left to defeat the Pirates 42–40. The loss ends Bluffton’s season at 17-7.

Bluffton trailed from the opening tip in this game. The Bulldogs went inside often and held a 15–5 lead after one quarter. But the Pirates stormed back, slowly chipping away at the lead. By half time the Pirates had cut the deficit to two. Going into the fourth quarter the game was tied 31–31.

Late game heroics were needed to keep the Pirates close. Down three points with less than a minute to go, Katie Prater nailed a three pointer to tie the score 42–42 with ten seconds remaining. Columbus Grove worked the ball down the court and the ball was knocked out with two seconds to play underneath their own basket. The Bulldogs online to four players on the right side of the key in cleared out the way for Rylee Seibert to hit the game winning layup as time expired.

The Pirates graduate no seniors and will look to build on this year’s success in 2018-19!
