(BLUFFTON) - The Lady Pirates built an early lead which they maintained through three quarters before blitzing visiting Riverdale 13-0 to open the fourth quarter.  Junior Alivia Koenig canned six three pointers on her way to 24 points leading Bluffton to a 67-48 Saturday afternoon victory.  Bluffton is now 12-5, Riverdale falls to 9-8.

Koenig and backcourt mate Kayla White lit up the Falcons from the opening tip, each burying two three pointers in the game’s first five minutes as Bluffton led 17-10 after eight minutes. The Pirates kept the Falcons in the rear view mirror as Averey Rumer scored five points in the quarter, including an old fashioned three point play to put Bluffton ahead 29-18.  Rumer and front court partner Libby Schaadt traded assists and baskets on back to back possessions to open the second stanza.

Koenig drained a ‘3’ on the first trip down the court in the second half to set the tone for Bluffton.  The Falcons did not back down, pushing offense through their 5’11’ standout Lexie Wright who had ten points in the third quarter.  Wright got the Falcons within three at 35-32 with 4:30 left in the quarter but back to back threes from White and Koenig pushed the lead out to 41-34.  The Pirates took a 45-38 lead into the fourth.

Bluffton scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.  Katie Prater, Schaadt, Rumer, Koenig and White all scored in the run as the Pirates shared the ball seamlessly working against Riverdale’s man defense as well as a 2-3 zone.  Koenig finished the game with six assists.  Ashley Eachus led the team with 7 rebounds, 4 of them offensive, and scored all 5 of her points from the free throw line.  Rumer blocked four shots on defense.

The Pirates shot exceptionally well from three point range, connecting on 11 of 22 attempts.   Riverdale was 0/8 on three pointers. Bluffton dominated the rebounding by a 24-13 margin over the significantly taller Falcons.
