(COLUMBUS GROVE) - Senior Dakota Bricker came off a screen, caught the pass, took a dribble and buried the game winning three pointer with eight seconds remaining as Bluffton defeated Columbus Grove 43-42 Friday night.  The win moves Bluffton to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in Northwest Conference play.  Grove fell to 5-9 with the loss.

Kaleb Jefferson kept the Pirates close in the first half, scoring 13 of his game high 16 points.  The senior picked up his fourth foul with three minutes left in the fourth quarter and eventually fouled out with just under three minutes left in the game.

Bluffton got a major contribution in the third quarter from Mason Soper. The sophomore poured in seven points as Bluffton was able to take the lead going into the fourth quarter by a 36-35 margin. The Pirates had their hands full with 6’3” freshman Blake Reynolds who scored 11 to lead the Bulldogs.  Bluffton clamped down on Reynolds, especially in the second half.

The Bulldogs ran off the first five points of the fourth quarter and held a 40-36 cushion.  Pirate senior Cole Fruchey banked in a long three pointer from straightaway to cut the lead to one.  A few minutes later with Grove leading now 42-39, Bricker made one of two free throws to cut the lad to 42-40.  CG missed the front end of a one and one free throw and Bluffton had the ball with 20 seconds trailing by two.  Bricker, who scored 11 in the game, nailed the three pointer with seven ticks left and the Pirates still had to defend.  Reynolds was whistled for traveling after he fell down on the baseline and the Pirates were able to run out the clock for the win.

The Pirates were 4/8 from three point land and 5/7 on free throws.
