Rumer, Prater Pace Win over Lancers

By

(BLUFFTON) - Halfway through the Northwest Conference “season” the Bluffton Lady Pirates remained unbeaten in league play after knocking off Lincolnview 45-37 Thursday evening.  Averey Rumer scored 14 points for BHS and Katie Prater added 13, including three 3’s in the victory.  Bluffton is now 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Averey Rumer broke an 8-8 tie late in the first quarter with back to back layups giving Bluffton a 12-8 edge after 8 minutes.  In the second Prater scored five and Rumer four as Bluffton built a 25-18 lead with 90 seconds left in the half.  The Lancers were able to score in the lane twice to cut the Pirate lead down to 25-22 heading into halftime.

BHS outscored Lincolnview 9-2 in the third quarter as Prater knocked down two 3 pointers and Kayla White connected from beyond the arc.  The Pirate pressure defense held the visitors to just one basket in the third stanza and allowed the Pirates to take a 34-24 lead into the fourth.

Lincolnview opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 spurt but Rumer ended the Pirate drought with a rainbow three pointer with 4:44 left.  Again, the Pirates clamped down on the visitors defensively, allowing just two points over the next four minutes building a 41-32 lead.  The PIrates took care of business at the free throw line connecting on 4/6 attempts in the fourth quarter and 7/10 for the game.

The next two conference foes for Bluffton each only have one loss so the games will be of vital importance.  Thursday, the Pirates travel to Spencerville and then host defending league champion Columbus Grove on Thursday January 25.  Delphos Jefferson is unbeaten in the NWC and Bluffton hosts the Wildcats in the final game of the regular season on February 15.
