(PAULDING) - While the final score showed a 56-44 Bluffton victory, the road win at Paulding was anything but a gimme. Behind a season high 26 points from junior Alivia Koenig, BHS was able to pull away late and remain undefeated in Northwest Conference play. The Pirates improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 while Paulding fell to 2-7 and 0-3 respectively.
Bluffton led 22-19 at halftime and 37-34 after three quarters. Paulding took a 38-37 lead and led again 41-40 early in the fourth quarter. At that point, Bluffton ripped off an 11-0 run with buckets from Koenig, Libby Schaadt, Averey Rumer and a dagger three pointer from Kayla White in transition that put the game out of reach.
Koenig put on a show in the second half. After scoring 7 first half points, Koenig connected on three 3s in the third quarter alone. Alivia kept up the scoring in fourth with nine more markers including her fifth ‘3’ of the game.
Paulding had a superior size advantage all night long with 6’0 Cassidy Posey scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The Panthers outrebounded Bluffton 35-23 however second half rebounds were dead even at 13-13. Averey Rumer led Bluffton on the boards with 8 and Libby Schaadt added 5.
The Pirates were a stellar 82% (14/17) from the free throw line including a 7/7 effort in the fourth quarter to grow the lead.
