(BLUFFTON) - The Bluffton and Ottoville girls basketball entered Saturday afternoon’s contest with just one loss combined.  Riding the strength of a 21-4 second quarter advantage, Ottoville went home with their undefeated record intact and a 69-36 victory.  Bluffton falls to 4-2 on the season.

The teams traded baskets to start the game but a combination of Ottoville’s defensive length and Bluffton’s cold shooting allowed the visitors to take a 16-9 lead after one quarter.  Ottoville started three players 5’10” and taller and all shots in the paint were contested.  The Pirates were 0/8 on three point shots and 5/23 (21%) from the field in the first half making scoring hard to come by. The Big Green’s full court press created more issues in the second quarter as the Pirates committed 11 first half turnovers.  The result for Ottoville was a 15-0 second quarter run and a 37-13 halftime advantage.

Another 12-0 Big Green burst in the third quarter put the game out of reach.  Averey Rumer got Bluffton in the scoring column with a three pointer to end the run with the score 51-16.  Bluffton got buckets from Brinkley Garmatter, Rumer and Libby Schaadt as the closed the quarter on a 10-4 spurt.

Alivia Koenig buried three 3’s in the fourth quarter on her way to 13 points.  The junior Koenig now sits in second place on the all time list at BHS with 145 made three pointers.  Caity Matter holds the all time record at 209.

BHS will regroup and prepare for conference foe Crestview who comes calling Thursday evening.
