(BLUFFTON) - For the second contest in as many nights, Bluffton faced a significant size disadvantage.  While it was Bath’s 6’8” Harrison Gough that intimidated, the Wildcats were fueled on offense by fellow senior Chad Frey as the Wildcats pulled away for a 60-46 victory in Pirate gymnasium.  The loss leaves both teams at 1-1 on the season.

A back and forth affair in the first half suddenly tilted in Bath’s favor when the visitors ripped off ten unanswered points to take a 25-16 lead at the half.  Frey scored 7 of the 10 points in the run for the Wildcats.

In the third quarter, the game teetered out of reach for the Pirates as an 11-0 Wildcat run pushed the lead out to 38-19.  Bluffton responded with a 6-0 burst on back to back buckets from Kaleb Jefferson and a Luke Denecker two pointer.  Bath weathered the storm and regained momentum and a 43-27 lead heading into the third quarter.

The Pirate offense, bottled up most of the night, took off in the fourth quarter putting up 19 points after just 27 in the first three quarters combined.  Jared Piercefield had a huge fourth quarter, scoring 9 points.  The 5’10” sophomore was fearless inside scoring over the 6’8” Gough and converting three more buckets in the paint.  Jefferson scored to cut the Bath lead to 54-43 with 2:58 left but the Pirates would not be able to get the deficit under ten.

Individual scoring:

Kaleb Jefferson 16

Luke Denecker 11

Jared Piercefield 9

Mason Sopher 8

Dakota Bricker 2
