(FINDLAY) - Bluffton’s wrestling team went 1-4 as a team in the Findlay Duals to open the 2017-18 season.  The Pirates defeated Bath 36-29 in a team win.  BHS dropped matches to Sandusky, Findlay, Oak Hills and Fremont Ross, all schools in large school OHSAA divisions.  

Deandre Nassar (220) got his season off to a strong start with a 5-0 day.  The junior won one match by pin and had two close wins by 3-2 and 4-2 scores.  Jeremy Sturgeon (113) was credited with a 4-1 record on the day, all wins were by forfeit.  James Badial-Luna (152) earned three wins against two losses including one win by pin.  Josh Mehaffie (126) also went 3-2 with a pin to his credit.  Tayton Kleman (106) finished the day at 3-2, all wins were by forfeit.  

Elijah Conley (145) pinned two opponents and ended the day at 2-3.  Wyatt Gossard (120) closed at 2-3, all wins were by forfeit.  Brady Romick ended 1-4 and Jesse Montel 0-5 on the day. 

For Conley, Gossard, Kleman, Mehaffie and Sturgeon this was their first taste of high school wrestling competition.  

The Pirates are scheduled to be back in action December 16 at the Allen County Invitational.
