Pirates Move On to District Finals

(KALIDA) - Bitter cold and rainy conditions set the stage for another boys soccer District game with Temple Christian Tuesday evening.  The Pirates pulled away late and defeated the Pioneers 5-0 to advance to the District Final Saturday against Kalida.  The game will be played on Kalida’s home field.

Braden Conrad scored the lone goal of the first half as the Pirates went directly into the wind for the first forty minutes.  The Pioneers came out strong in the second half and just five minutes in, forced Bluffton keeper Dakoda Clymer to make a point blank save.  Bluffton’s depth began to wear down the Temple Christian side as the game wore on.  The relentless Pirate attack yielded four goals in the final 20 minutes.

John Schriner made a long run with the ball and then crossed to Jayden Mays who finished the score to put Bluffton up 2-0.  Just a few minutes later, Jordan Siferd buried a shot from well over 20 yards out capitalizing the wind at his back.  Tristan Smucker was tripped up in the box at the 9’ mark and converted a penalty kick and Jackson Steinmetz closed out the scoring with just 1:02 remaining.

Now the Pirates will take on Kalida with a second straight trip to Regionals at stake.  The two teams met in Bluffton on October 10.  Kalida was victorious 1-0 but the Pirates had several chances in the contest but couldn’t convert, including a penalty kick.  The game, for now, is set for a 5:00 kickoff but is subject to a time change.
