Boys Bow Out in Districts

By

(LIMA) - Bluffton's boys basketball team bowed out of the OHSAA tournament after a 71-35 loss in the District Semifinal to Lima Central Catholic.  LCC, ranked first in the final Division III state poll and owners of a 22-1 record, led 17-4 after one quarter and 30-6 at halftime.

Undeterred, the Pirates fought back in the third quarter, knocking down four three pointers to cut the lead to 37-17 with three minutes to go in the quarter.  A 19-7 run by LCC pushed the lead back out to 32 heading into the fourth quarter. Coach Todd Boblitt gave credit to the swarming, active LCC defense in limiting the Pirate offensive effort. LCC forced 15 turnovers in the ballgame.

Joel Siefker led BHS with 10 points.  Joe Schriner added 6, Bret Rumer & Zane Myers 5, Nick Friesen 4 and Mitchell Ault 3.

BHS ends the season with a 15-9 mark.  The program will tremendously miss seniors Joel Siefker, Nick Friesen, Bret Rumer, Joe Schriner and Mitchell Ault.
