Saturday, September 18, the Pirates hosted a fine Celina Bulldog team to Steinmetz Field. Throughout the contest, the Bulldogs proved that they are one of the elite teams of the WBL.
The Bulldogs came out and played a very physical game against the Pirates. With 25:59 remaining in the first half, Jeremy Walls sent a penalty kick into the Pirates net and the Bulldogs lead 1-0.
At 15:26 of the first half and due to a defensive lapse by the home team, the Bulldogs took advantage and the Pirates were down 0-2 after a Ryan Baker goal. In some method of trying to figure out what had just happened, officially four seconds later, it happened again. Certainly in a clock-keeper’s error, the Bulldogs scored off of a steal in which it appeared only four ticks of the clock had occurred since the last goal.
The teams went into halftime with the Bulldogs leading 3-0. After another 40 minutes, the final score also stood at 3-0. Celina outshot the Pirates 8 to 6 for the game. The Pirates record stood at 2-7-1.
Bluffton hosted Riverdale on Tuesday, September 21 and will travel to Cory-Rawson Saturday, September 25.
