Tyler Breidenbach drives vs St Henry
For the first time, Bluffton boys basketball traveled to Wapakoneta for opening round of the OHSAA tournament. Also, for the first time, Bluffton faced St. Henry, out of the Midwest Athletic Conference. The game started out well for Bluffton but quickly turned south, as the Pirates ended the year with a 71-39 loss. BHS ends the year at 3-18. St. Henry was the biggest team Bluffton faced this year, boasting five players over 6’4” on their roster. The Pirates were undaunted early as Levi Gleason scored twice in a row on up and under moves, giving Bluffton a a 4-0 lead. Soon after, the taller Redskins proved they had outside game as they got red hot from three point land and didn’t look back. St Henry downed five from downtown in the first quarter, the last one at the buzzer giving SH a 21-10 lead. The Redskins continued with a 13-0 jaunt to start the second, extending the lead to 34-10. Gleason broke the Pirates’ drought with a bunny but the lead was just too much to overcome. The Pirates continued to compete in the third quarter, giving the Redskins different looks on defense while scoring 10 points of their own. Matt Gillett made a nice sideline save to Gleason, who fed a streaking RJ Stratton for a layup in the third. BHS won the fourth quarter 13-11 on buckets from Michael Donley, Tyler Breidenbach, Matt Gillett, Levi Gleason and Keshaun Hughes. This marked the final game for Bluffton seniors Tyler Breidenbach and Cory Hilty. The scoring break down for Bluffton: Levi Gleason 13 points, Matt Gillett 6, Michael Donley 5, Kyle Siefker 5, Keshaun Hughes 4, RJ Stratton 4 and Tyler Breidenbach 2.
